Last weekend my dad and I joined several cousins and their friends for a hunting trip in Arkansas. Their hunting club, the Hollywood Field Office sponsors disabled hunts each year. This year I had the opportunity to go. What a treat!
We met the guys at Western Sizzlin in Arkadelphia, then went out to the woods. There we quickly worked to get my gun rig set up. Since I can't hold anything or maintain my balance well, the rig was necessary. After some careful guessing, we got it set up and the Knight Inline muzzle-loader was ready. I hit the target at 75 yds my first shot!
Steve and Ronnie hunted the stand with me while my dad and cousin Todd and the other guys hunted other stands.
We saw a nice 6-pointer, but this is a 7 x 14 club (7 points, 14 in. wide). So, we decided to wait a little. No good shot. Later, a huge doe came out, but stayed looking away from me. You can't get a decent shot with a muzzle-loader head/tail on. So, miss 2.
That night was - interesting. Bob made great chilli. Then we slept. They meaning the snorers. Guess who didn't sleep. You're so bright! So, Saturday morning I thought I'd be a zombie, right? Nope. So sure I'd get a shot, I stayed awake all morning. And nada. Todd and Steve each got one, though.
After a great lunch of fried fish & taters w/ hush puppies and a rest, I was ready for the big 'un. So, evening hunt went about like the morning. Nothing. We stayed till we couldn't see.
Dad and I got home about 11:30 Saturday night. What a trip! Oh, guess what we saw moving around all over as we left camp. See, so bright!
It was a lot of fun. I can't wait to bag my Texas deer this year! Just have to give that rig more practice. Any volunteers to take me shooting?

Mike, glad you had fun, too! Good old Arkadelphia and Western Sizzlin...hehe...You'll get that deer...funny...you guys introduced me to deer meat years ago and no I haven't had any since then...
I hate deer. Rats, I tell you, rats! Around here, they terrorize everybody. Grrr. And to think they are considering setting limits on how many can be hunted!
Completely unrelated to hunting, but on the chili note...
I just made two gallons of it. I think it is quite fantastic, as does everyone else who benefitted from it when I brought it into work. One person, however, wouldn't touch it. They "don't eat mexican food". My friend, I informed them "chili is NOT mexican, it is TEXAN."
However. My chili was not Texas chili. I didn't have to run screaming for water every other bite.
