Faith: a daily exercise
Before I broke my neck I enjoyed running. It was probably the thing I have been most disciplined in my entire life. Sure, my dad got me started [dad's website], but it became a real passion for m too. Getting up early to read or pray is a bear, but running was different. Running was a part of my day, my life, me.
Each day I exercise my faith as I used to exercise my body. In fact, we all do. It's not whether I exercise my faith that is inportant, it's how I exercise my faith that makes the difference.
An article at newmanmag.com,
Faith Like King David's, challenged me to rethink how I exercise my faith. Yes, I'm still building on this faith thing. The author pointed out David was confident taking that slingshot against Goliath because he had practiced with it in the fields.
If I expect God to use what I have for good, I need to exercise it. That means I need to really trust him when things are tight financially, to wait for him when doors close, and to confess to him when something is bothering me. When I trust in my credit card, my connections, or my friend to get me thru a situation, I shortchange the process.
Maybe that's why I don't find any Goliaths.
