An Enormous God

One of the biggest guys I know of is Shaquille O'Neil. When he was in Orlando and we were in the Tampa Bay area, I had several friends who went to Magic games and commented on the size of this guy. Some even shook hands with him and were amazed how his hand swallowed their own. A guy this big dominates the court, towering over others and just using his sheer size can leverage his way in for shots and blocks nobody can rival.

This morning I was reading from Don Miller's book Searching for God Knows What. Miller reminisces on whenn he realized how really BIG God is. In his realization, it became clear to Miller that he -- and most of us for that matter -- had a convenient view of God that completely missed the implications of who He is and who we are.

All too often, our "God" doesn't make our jaw drop. He doesn't fill creation with His glory, dominate anything that competes, or bring us awe and wonder. He's convenient. So we go on living convenient lives with convenient rules and convenient expectations, all the while missing the truly AWESOME and UNPREDICTABLE God who calls us to a relationship and adventure with him. This is the giant-slaying, people-healing, life-changing, fire-walking God that betrays reason and expectations.

Good write. Sounds a lot like somthing I just read in a book - "The Life You've Always Wanted". Write a few more like this and I'll print them out, staple them together and put your devotional in a place where everybody can read it - our restroom. Keep it up!
