A Reckless Life

This weekend Steve Irwin, the "Crocodile Hunter", died while filming a documentary on dangerous sea life. He is known for putting himself in harm's way with some of nature's deadliest creatures. Irwin has run from rhinos, dangled venemous snakes and -- of course -- wrestled crocodiles. He made a name for himself living a reckless life.

Irwin was not just a thrill-seeker. He was driven by deeper convictions. Some have ridiculed the Crocodile Hunter for his stunts. Surely, Irwin lived life on the edge. But driving Irwin was a committed love for nature and preserving the habitat of these amazing creatures. His charismatic antics helped support zoos and refuges, build a television station (Animal Planet) and raise interest in and awareness of the animals Steve enjoyed.

When people see a charismatic person, we're sometimes repulsed, but often strangely attracted to them. Their audacity to live outside the norms and boldly flaunt their quirks makes us wonder. Irwin's passion was amazing creatures. What's your passion? Are you playing it safe, trying to be acceptable to people around you? Are you ready to die doing what you love?
